3 Things That Will Help you Bring out the Best in Yourself

by Sueños on 12/19/16

As 2016 comes to an end you may already be making your New Year's resolutions. However, how often to you stick to them? As we get to that season I want to give you some tips that will help you make those resolutions a reality.

Take a Moment Every Morning to Think About Your Goals
I use a meditation done by Wayne Dyer to do this, but what is really boils down to is this. Each day you are granted the opportunity to move closer to the life you have dreamed of living. Each obstacle gives you the chance to behave as the person you have always wanted to be. Taking a moment to concentrate on your goals every morning will help you recall the attitudes that inform behavior. The more readily available the attitude, the more likely you will respond in such a way that is concordant with what you would like to create.

Be The Person Who Already Has Everything
So often we imagine ourselves in a far off day when we've achieved everything we've ever wanted, and we like to think we'll look back on our life with this beautiful wave of nostalgia, as our yacht disappears into the sunset. This just isn't so. Humans are insatiable wanting machines, we always create new goals just as soon as we complete the old ones. That's okay, in fact that's what makes life fun! But don't make your sense of self contingent on the completion of goals, rather, enjoy what is happening right now. Be the yacht sailing version of yourself now, and instead of looking at your past with delight, look at this day with delight.

Remember It's the Journey That Makes it Fun
If you know me just a little bit, then you've heard about my beautiful 1986 Winnebago I'm in the process of remodeling. (Her name is Florence). During the sub zero weather the valve on Florence's toilet burst, causing the black water tank to overflow. I'll spare you the details, but it was certainly a crappy situation. It would have been so easy to have thrown in the towel on the whole thing, and call the project a bust. However, it's those things, the unexpected hiccups, that make it all fun. That's what gives you a chance to learn something new.

What I'm advocating here isn't complacency, but enjoyment of the process. Your life will always be a work in process, your goals will change, as will your priorities. A story wouldn't be interesting if the author skipped straight to the end. What makes it enticing is all the drama in between. Your life is a page turning novel, and there's no actor better for your role than you.

What it Really Means to Travel

by Sueños on 12/16/16

In my lifetime I've had some incredible opportunities to travel all over the world. Before the age of 5 I had been to Mexico and Brazil, and over the last 10 years I've been able to add Germany and Denmark to that list as well. However, while these trips were incredible, no trip meant so much to me as my voyage to Moab. It couldn't have cost more than $80, I was a poor high school student at time, and the amenities were certainly all natural, as we slept in tents we bought from a thrift store. Although the trip appeared meager, it was far from it, as we had managed to acquire one whole bottle of Malibu rum.

It felt like we were living large that trip, but nothing could compare to the grandeur of the crimson and apricot sandstone cliffs. I'll never forget hiking to the top of the cliff behind our campsite and looking out over the green river, as it cut through the monolithic cliffs of sandstone. It was in that moment that I truly understood the word serendipity. Never in my life had I truly been awestruck until I stood under the natural archways leading into Earth's sacred edifice. I had read Emerson's works, but it wasn't until that moment that I understood what, "Nature always wears the colors of the spirit," truly meant.

It's these moments in which we experience the sublime, the marvelous, the infinite, that we truly realize our place within cosmos. It's the reinvigorating of the senses, that allows us to see our own lives as these delicately woven tapestries of experience, in which thousands of stories are all intertwining to create one defining story of the human race. Travel at its core isn't about 5-star hotels in Milan or drinking champagne in first class, it's about reminding us what our place on this blue dot is all about. It's about helping us experience awe and wonder in even the most mundane of tasks.

So, find something new to do, experience something different from your day to day. Even if it's just a week end trip to a town a few hours away, or a small campsite in the middle of nowhere. It isn't about appearing like a jet-setter, it's about fueling your soul with experience.

Tres Ingredientes Para Una Vida Feliz

by Sueños on 12/15/16

TELL THAT LITTLE NEGATIVE VOICE IN YOUR HEAD TO SHUT UP! It is simply not true.

by Sueños on 12/14/16

Most careers I’ve seen limited have been because people underestimated themselves. Seldom do I see someone limit their career because they are too confident. What I commonly see is individuals who underestimate their potential. They allow the internal negative self talk voice to take over and define them. You know this voice it tells you all the reasons why you will fail. It tells you, you are not smart enough, to old, to young, to fat, to skinny, to brown to white. It is time to get rid of this voice. It does not serve you. It serves itself. It keeps you in a constant state of self doubt. This is the only way it can control you. It puts you into a low negative energy state. It lowers your serotonin levels. It changes you biochemically. Since it causes a bio chemical change, negative self talk can be highly addictive. It is more than just a bad habit. How do you get rid of it? You develop a consistent positive energy routine:

1. Never allow negative self talk to go unabated. You know it is not true. You are smart enough and all the other enoughs you tell yourself you are not. Start telling yourself it is not true. You are enough.

2. Sleep well. Too little sleep makes us all weak.

3. Meditate. Strong metaphysical muscles will raise your awareness, which will allow you to keep the negative self talk in check.

4. Good Nutrition. Developing a constant level of energy is key to maintaining your awareness.

5. Move. What ever your type of exercise/activity is, just move. It increases the oxygen in your system which you need to develop glycogen. This is the energy you live from.

Overall, as you start down this new path just be patient and kind to yourself. Recognize this is a habit you developed over a long period of time. You will not get there with one big step but with many little ones.

Enjoy,

Did You Put A Present Under The Tree For Yourself?

by Sueños on 12/14/16

There is one lone unopened present left under the tree.  It does not have a name on it but you know who it belongs to.  You are a little afraid to open it.  Do you Dare? You remove the beautiful bow and brightly colored ribbon.  You carefully remove the intricate patterned paper and fold it.  You gently open the box.   It is perfect.  It is what you always wanted.  It seems a bit self indulgent. It is the life you always wanted and deserve!   It is possible to realize your dreams and have them waiting in a pretty little box all tied in bow.  You simply have to start giving yourself a gift of  growth every year.  Indulge your mind, body, soul, and spirit.  Enjoy!
